SHORT HEADCANNON: CURLY BILL'S SECRET...
Tumblr media
*Curly Bill has a secret he keeps all to himself...
So, the Cowboy King's heart burns with desire for you.
This old cowboy has noticed you to the point where he has memorized your daily routines so he can get a chance to look at you. Each day, be nervously gazes upon the bustling street, eager to at the very least, get a glimpse of your lovely face and wonderful curves.Curly Bill sits near the Grand Hotel, the favorite hang out for the cowboys and while sucking on an imported cigar, he waits, his heart racing.
From the corner of his eye, he spots you walking out of the library, one of your preferred places. Your lovely hair flowing in the breeze, a beautiful smile decorates your face. Curly Bill tries to remain calm as you walk closer, hoping he'll get a chance to at least say hello.
Curly Bill absent mindedly plays with his cigar while his mind spins with different things he could say to you…
If he confesses what rests on his heart, he would tell you:
“My, my, why you sure are pretty.”
“There are nights I can't sleep, thinking of you.”
“If you give me a chance, I would do anything to make you happy.”
The strong dust and wind that usually blows wildly through town is quiet on this day so there's no need for you to cover your alluring face with a handkerchief. Curly pretends to be gazing at the livery station, admiring the Appaloosa a man brought in earlier. He doesn't want you to know his little secret; that he waits for you everyday, hoping for a chance to lay some of his charm on you.
His anxiety increases when he remembers you don't engage in the activities that occur in the red light district and because of that, he may never really get a chance to say anything more than, “howdy, ma'am,” but he's a believer that anything is possible and that with a stroke of luck, he may get you to see what a great fellow he is. And when Curly isn't sucking back whiskey, he's a well mannered man.
Men outnumbered women in Tombstone to the point where men were becoming increasingly discouraged in regards to courting the few that were available. And the talk around town included rumors that you didn't belong to any man and any fellow that was brave enough to approach you would gain the opportunity to impress you. Curly Bill was well aware of his competition; men like Behan and even Doc Holliday already tried their luck and you showed disinterest to both which left a bittersweet taste in his mouth. On one hand, your availability was clear and on the other hand, you seem selective of who can court you.
While Curly Bill continues biting his cigar, he tries to look away from you so you don't notice him staring with unblinking eyes. You cross the street and sway close to where he's standing and Curly takes a breath and hopes he gets a chance to talk to you. He feels his heart race with each step you take towards him. He puts his cigar behind his back and tips his hat. He takes a small bow and tries to speak through his awkwardness.
“Well, how are you today, ma'am?” Curly tries to think of something to say, but finds his tongue tied when your eyes meet.
“Good day, Mr. Brocious,” you respond through a smile Curly can't resist. He delights that you remember his name, although you only met once when Billy Breckenridge introduced the two of you. He recalls how your wonderful, liquid eyes showed a trusting and free spirit. Eyes that look through people and not at people.
Curly stumbles over his own words and he becomes lost in your stare; you never look at him for more than a second and his intense craving to converse with you becomes overwhelming. Curly Bill is not a man to find himself at a loss for words, but suddenly grows hesitant; perhaps you find him a stinky nuisance or just a down and dirty cowboy who does nothing more than amuse you for a second or two.
“Uh, well, where are you off to today, ma’am?” Curly Bill tosses his cigar and takes his hat off, holding it in his hands while he rocks on his feet. He yearns for you to take his arm while he proudly walks with you and ensures your safety.
“I was on my way to Silver Owls. I was hoping to purchase some new earrings.” You beam up at Curly Bill who smiles sheepishly, flashing his signature grin at you. He’s exhilarated that you stopped to speak with him.He can feel his neck and face grow red with uncertainty; if he can secure an opportunity to at least walk near you and possibly enjoy you holding his arm while he walks with you, he would feel that hot blooded passion that can only come from a beautiful woman. He could brag to his gang of red sash cowboys that he escorted Tombstone’s most desirable woman to her destination and that you were overcome with rosy adoration over him.
“Well,” Curly starts, still holding his hat. “Will you allow me to escort you there? Tombstone can be a wild place and a lovely lady like you should have an escort.”
You look up at Curly Bill and he smiles again. You gently take his arm and Curly Bill gazes down at you, filled with pride and gratitude. He decides that even if this encounter becomes the only one he gets with you, he at least got to talk to you and stand near you, your perfume a heavenly scent that floods Curly’s nose and drowns out the stench of manure and the horrendous body odor most men had.
The walk to Silver Owls takes only a few moments and while Curly happily strolls through the streets with you,a few gentleman tip their hats while others look upon in disgust and Curly notices a few ladies cover their open mouths with their gloved hands, wondering why such a lovely woman like yourself would want to engage in any activity with Curly Bill; a man with a reputation for fierceness, rustling, killing, treeing and stealing. But few people know the softer and even sympathetic side to this old cowboy. Curly Bill wanted what every other man in town wanted; to secure the courtship of a beautiful gem, buy some land and build a life with her and finally break free of the vicious whirlwind of this wild country.
You approach your destination and Curly Bill walks you up the stairs. He wants to enter the store with you and perhaps purchase a small piece of jewelry, but decides against it, not wanting to push his luck. You break from his arm and smile at him. Curly Bill, absentmindedly brushes your hair away from your face. He winks at you and watches you disappear into the store.
Curly takes another cigar from his shirt pocket and happily lights it while walking back to the hotel porch, where a few of his cowboys are watching, giving each other inquisitive looks.
“She talked to you?” Ike Clanton queried. “What did she say, Curly?”
“Are you going to see her again?” Stillwell inquires.
“Does she smell as good as she looks?” Johnny Barnes questions.
Curly Bill feels a surge of pride rush through his veins.
“She needed an escort and she chose me,” Curly answers, knowing damn well you didn’t ask, you simply accepted his offer.
“Will you introduce us?” Ike continues questioning.
Curly grins with satisfaction. “Well, maybe, boys. Just maybe”
I hope to be the one that escorts her everyday…
TO BE CONTINUED IF REQUESTED…

I have no real interest in mods aside from somewhat following the Frontier mess, but when I found out that the fairly popular old New Vegas Bounties mods included incredibly blatant references to Judge Holden and Glanton from Blood Meridian, plus a character named "Javier Sugar" who speaks several lines lifted straight from No Country for Old Men, I wanted to find out how many references to other things pop up throughout the three mods. Turns out, a LOT.
I identified some of them myself, but eventually when I realized how much time it would take for me to watch a whole playthrough or try it out myself, I decided to look up the rest on TV Tropes and put them all together in a list.
The aforementioned Judge Holden knock-off is also said to be seven-feet tall and is a child predator (though only technically implied to be in Holden's case)
The character literally named Glanton runs a group who goes around killing "tribals"
There's a character named Cormac, as in Cormac McCarthy
During the scene with "Javier Sugar", in addition to all the NCFOM quotes there's also a random quote from the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales thrown in there... to spice things up? IDK, the quote is something like "Dyin' ain't no way of livin', boy"
A character called "Harmonica" references one of the main characters of Once Upon a Time in the West
The ghoul Doc Friday references the historical figure Doc Holiday, and his revolver the Huckleberry references the famous quote from his depiction in the movie Tombstone, "I could be your huckleberry"
Marko's outfit seems to reference the character Loco from the movie The Great Silence.
The Frosthill segment of III is also lifted from The Great Silence, what with its Utah setting during the winter, the main character getting shot through the hand, and bounty hunters pretty much kill the whole town.
Aaron Flagg the cult leader seems to be inspired by Randall Flagg the Stephen King villain
The sniper Charlie Halfcocked references the U.S. Marine sniper during Vietnam, Carlos Hathcock, the previous record holder for the most kills
Tom Quigley references the movie Quigley Down Under, the titular character being played by Tom Sellick.
Enclave members Quantrill and Onoda, who keep fighting despite the Enclave's repeated defeats, are named after Confederate guerilla William Quantrill and WWII Japanese soldier Hiroo Onoda, who did the same for their sides (okay, I thought that reference was pretty good)
Eileen the Fiend = serial killer Aileen Wuornos
Tony Idaho = Tony Montana from Scarface
Tommy the former Omerta enforcer who killed a made man references Tommy DeVito from Goodfellas
Alex and his gang in Freeside reference Alex DeLarge and his droogs from A Clockwork Orange
Freddie the ghoul = Freddy Krueger
Jack, former muscle for Heck Gunderson, references the villain Jack Wilson from Shane, his revolver is called "Shane's Bane"
Albert Quisling = Vidkun Quisling
Mario Barksdale = character from The Wire
Prometheus is named after the subtitle for Frankenstein: "The modern Prometheus", his Deathclaws are Mary and Shelley
Pancho Cortina = Pancho Villa
"Squirrelly" Bill Blasius references outlaw "Curly" Bill Brocius
Angel Lee is a combination of Angel Eyes from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and the actor Lee Van Cleef
Godwin, who mails out bombs, probably references Unabomber
Joe Frost = Edward Snowden
Guys fighting over treasure named Clint and Tuco
Fiend chem lab has characters Walter and Pinkman, references Breaking Bad
John Ramsey's body is put on display with a quote referencing the movie Unforgiven, "This is what happens to assassins/rangers around here".
Those are the ones that I either caught myself or saw other people list, if there's more, go ahead and add on.
Some of the historical references are kinda funny, though others are either tasteless (Aileen Wuornos) or eye-roll worthy (Carlos Hathcock = Charlie Halfcocked, GEDDIT IT'S A GUN JOKE), and the majority of the pop culture references are so blatant and so numerous that it gets annoying.
If I made my own mod or anything else, of course I too would love to stick in a bunch of references to the things I love, though I would try to be less obvious about them, put different spins on them, you know? You can't really judge mods to the same standard as the source, and I would be more forgiving if the rest of the mods didn't look like such an edgy slog.

I'm your huckleberry (Tombstone 1993) (Doc Holliday)
Description:
The joys of modern inventions and miracles are often taken for granted. Your hungry or thirsty? Get something from the fridge or make it. You need to go somewhere? Drive or call an uber. Your hurt? Go to the doctor.
Your bored? Watch a movie, play video games, watch videos on the internet, talk to people without ever leaving your house.
Some much time is in our hands... but back in the 19th century... you wouldn't last very long.
Diseases are rampant, gun violence is higher, no modern technology, barely any good medicine, almost all of your favorite food doesn't exist and most of the people are rude as hell. But... That doesn't mean all of them were so bad. Love was not something most people in this time really cared about. At least, in the town of Tombstone, Arizona.
After falling asleep with a nice looking stone you bought at a small stand at the carnival, your whole world becomes the opposite. Six people from the past discover you unconscious and alone in the blistering heat and offer help but it was their help that let you meet the most amazing man you've ever met.
John Henry "Doc" Holliday.
Chapter 9
Previous ~ Next
Three weeks... It's been three weeks. During that entire time, you were still being taught how to shoot guns and were given new clothes to try and fit in better and you still stuck next to the Earps the whole time. You were having a real hard time adjusting and it was starting to show. You missed your family, your dog, your home and your modern technological distractions. At least you had your phone and a way to charge it but you still missed it all.
Right now, you were with the Earps at the Oriental Saloon. Earlier that morning, Curly Bill was held for trial since Judge Spicer came back. Right now, you were at the bar being sad since you missed home while the Earps were playing pool and discussing Curly Bills trial. "So it takes Judge Spicer three weeks to get back to town and he says, "Well, did you actually see it?" I said "No. By the time I got there, Marshall White had already been shot." Then Spicer leans forward and he says, "Well, can't have a murder without a witness"". Wyatt then banged the counter with his fist which startled you a bit but you still remained silent.
"Case dismissed" Wyatt said concluding his story.
"What" Morgan asked in disbelief but then shook his head and went back to playing billiards. "Can you beat it" Wyatt asked. "After all that? Aw hell, who cares? None of my buisness anyway". Wyatt had given some money to Milt.
"God, I love this game" Morgan said cheerfully. "Say, (y/n)" Morgan said, "I sure hope this game is still around from where your from". You didn't respond. "(Y/n)"? The Earp brothers looked up and saw that you still had your back turned to them. You weren't drinking anything and just sat in silence. "Hey, (y/n)" Morgan asked as he came over. He was about to repeat his question but then saw that you were holding back more tears and that your lip was quivering. Morgan quickly put his cue down on the billiards table and when he went back to you, both Wyatt and Virgil knew something was wrong.
"Talk to me, what's wrong"? Wyatt and Virgil were on standby and listening to the conversation. Morgan still wasn't getting a response from you and gently took a hold of your hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Come on, talk to your bestie". With your free hand, you wiped the tears from your eyes and quietly said, "I'm never going home, am I"? The Earp brothers heard that sad question and didn't know what to respond with. Being more than a hundred years into the future is enough to say that this kind of living is tough and hard to adapt to. Morgan sighed and said, "Listen. I know that this is difficult for you and everything you once had is gone but were here for you. Remember? We're besties! You and me"!
You looked over at him. "You got me, Wyatt, Virgil, Doc, our wives and I know that Sylvie cheers you up. I've seen the way you talk to her. You kinda act like a child when your with her-"
"Don't make fun of me" you said trying to hide your smile and spoke with a tone that made it sound like you were whining. They laughed at that statement.
"That's what I'm talking about" Morgan said and had his point proven. "Now, come on. Where's that smile at"? You hid your face from him. "Come on, (Y/n)" he said teasingly, "Don't make me coax it outta ya'". You still didn't budge and you put your face down into your arms. "Alright, suit yourself". You heard his footsteps and could tell he was right behind you. "Morgan, I wouldn't do that if I were you" Wyatt warned but you could hear it in his voice that he was smiling. Virgil was quietly laughing from the other side of the billiards table and didn't bother to stop Morgan from whatever he was about to do.
As you got more concerned with what Morgan was planning to do, you suddenly felt two hands clutch your sides and gently scratching you. You shrieked and started laughing but when you tried to flee, Morgan made sure you wouldn't escape. "So here's the solution" Morgan laughed. "If she's being difficult, just treat her like the child she is". You were squirming to try and get away from him but he was very strong. Wyatt and Virgil couldn't stop smiling but Wyatt was quick to notice your face getting red. "Alright alright, Morgan. Stop, let her breathe".
Morgan released you and ran over to the corner by a bench. "You happy now" you asked trying to sound mad but the smile on your face wouldn't go away. The Earp brothers just laughed at you. "I am now. Anything to see that beautiful smile on your face would cheer any man up" Morgan said and grabbing his pool cue to continue his game. "Your such a jackass".
"Oh, I'm sorry" Morgan said mockingly, "You need another go round"?
"No"! Morgan just laughed and went back to his game. "But thank you". He looked up and smiled at you. "I think I needed that".
"Did you now" Wyatt asked.
"Yeah. I've been so busy with multitasking that I started to forget some things. And that made me forget about what happened".
"You know" Wyatt said, "I think you tend to forget easily".
"No I don't"! You looked at the bench. "*gasps* A dog"! The Earps just laughed as you sat down and started petting the dog and Wyatt only rolled his eyes and muttered to his brothers. "See what I mean"? And then he spoke loud enough for you and his brothers to hear clearly. "I been thinkin', maybe we outta open up a place of our own, you know? There's the real money. Build it up, milk it for all it's worth, then sell it off for a bundle and breeze outta this burg with more money than Cresus and ready to live like kings. What d'ya think, Virg"? Virgil didn't respond and took a shot of a drink. "Virg? Why don't you and me take a walk around town and see if we can't spot us out a couple of nice lots"?
Virgil looked at him and shrugged but still looked like he agreed to the idea. "It's workin' out just like you said, Wyatt" Morgan said and then taking a drink from his glass pint. "Goddamn, boys, we're lootin' this burg six ways from Sunday".
"Pretty fun too, isn't it" Wyatt asked.
"Actually, yeah, I gotta admit". It was then that the Mayor walked into the Saloon and spoke right to Wyatt. "Excuse me, Wyatt, do you have a moment"? Wyatt looked up and already looked displeased. "Please, will you just hear me out-"
"Now hold on, Mayor" Morgan said. "He already told you no".
"You tell him, Morg" Wyatt said.
"What about you" the Mayor said, gesturing to Virgil. "You were a lawman". Virgil was on the side of the billiards table and calmly said, "I'm busy. We're all busy". Virgil started to make his way around to get in the right position to hit the cue ball. "Sorry, Mayor, but you're barkin' up the wrong tree".
"You know, you men are makin' a lot of money in this town. That's good. That's good. Good for you". The Earps then all looked at him and could tell he was being a bit sarcastic. "In the meantime, a lot of decent people are suffering". The Mayor then put his hands up in defeat and sarcasm. "But, please, don't let me take up anymore of your precious time". The mayor then walked out of the Saloon leaving the Earp brothers no different than before he walked inside. "Rack 'em" Wyatt said.
"I tell ya, I'm sufferin'. From a hangover" Morgan joked. As Wyatt and Morgan were racking up the billiard balls, Virgil sat on the bench next to yours and rested his head on his pool cue. He was lost in thought and it didn't last long. "Hey Virg, you wanna play another round" Morgan asked.
"No". Virgil stood up and announced he was going to take a walk. They understood but then Morgan asked you if you wanna play. You happily accepted and took Virgils cue and started the game. Wyatt only sat down where you sat and just watched you guys enjoy yourselves. Not long after, gunshots were heard and Morgan quickly dropped his pool cue to guide you away from the window with Wyatt getting close to you. It was the cowboys who shot their guns and they rode on past the Saloon not caring if they accidentally shot someone.
"They never stop do they" you asked.
"No" Morgan said. He convinced you to come back to the game and after a minute, Virgil came back and asked for Morgan to come with him. "Hey, (y/n). Why don't you tag along with 'em"?
"Oh, am I boring you" you asked sarcastically.
"No, of course not. I just got something to do. Go on, go with 'em". You shrugged and said goodbye to Wyatt and followed after Virgil and Morgan. They didn't say where they were going but they then went straight to the Sheriffs office and found the Mayor again. Virgil declared that he would accept their offer of being a local law enforcer and propose a new law. Virgil wanted Morgan to join him and Morgan accepted the idea. Unfortunately, the Mayor wouldn't accept you as one since women were not yet seen as relevant for enforcement. You just agreed to help out in any way you can.
Both Virgil and Morgan were sworn into service and started making new posters explaining the law.
THE MAYOR     COMMON COUNCIL
of the
CITY of TOMBSTONE territory or Arizona
Do Ordain as Follows.
1. It is hereby declared UNLAWFUL for any person to carry DEADLY WEAPONS, concealed or otherwise (except the same be carried openly in sight, and in the hand) within the limits of the city of Tombstone.
2. This prohibition does not extend to persons immediately leaving or entering the City, who, with good faith, and within reasonable time are proceeding to deposit, or to take such deadly weapons.
3. All fire-arms of every description, and bowie knifes and drinks, are included within the prohibition of this ordinance.
4. Any person or persons violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction thereof, shall be fined in a sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED and FIFTY dollars and costs, or imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not to exceed five months, or both at the discretion of the court.
5. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after due publication.
APPROVED April 19, 1881
Both Virgil and Morgan knew that Wyatt would be upset that they sworn into service but they would cross that bridge when it came. And when the time came to announce the law and hang up the posters, people were not happy and even started lighting torches and raising their guns. Morgan made sure you were close by and held onto the posters and nails as Virgil was nailing them into place and the town's people were right in front of you and Morgan, shouting and cursing at you all. "Hold on a minute! Wait a minute! Calm down and listen to me" Virgil said to get their attention and they all stopped shouting. "Nobody's sayin' you can't own a gun. Nobody's even sayin' you can't carry a gun. All were sayin' is you can't carry a gun in town".
The shouting resumed but Virgil and Morgan wouldn't back down. As people kept shouting, Wyatt had arrived and was not looking pleased, as was to be expected. "What in the hell are you doin'? I told you we weren't gettin' involved"!
"You got us involved when you brought us here" Virgil said and then walked back inside the Sheriff's office with Morgan having you be in front of him to guide you inside. "Now you hold on a minute, Virg" Wyatt said defensively.
"Hold on nothin'" Virgil said in a defensive tone also. Morgan had you stand next to him. "I walk around this town and look these people in the eyes, it's just like someone's slappin' me in the face. These people are afraid to walk down the street and I'm tryin' to make money of that like some goddamn vulture! If we're gonna have a future in this town, it's gotta have some law and order"!
"Please, Virg, don't do this to me"!
"It's got nothin' to do with you, Wyatt! It's got to do wi-"
"Nothin' to do with me!? I'm your brother for christs sake! God, I don't believe this"! Wyatt then turned his attention to Morgan. "Talk to him, will ya? Or hit him"! Morgan wouldn't and lifted his coat flap back to reveal a badge. "Ah God, don't tell me"!
"Like you said, Wyatt, we're brothers. Gotta back your brothers play. Just did like I figured you would". Wyatt couldn't believe this and looked at you. You only looked down and away from his gaze. "All right now, you listen to me, all of ya"! Wyatt then slammed the door shut and making you get behind Morgan. "For the first time in our lives, we got a chance to stop wandering and finally be a family. Now, this is trouble we don't need. You saw what happened to Fred White and how badly it messed her up" Wyatt said gesturing to you at the end of his sentence.
"We know what we're doin', Wyatt" Morgan said.
"Okay, fine. Say you're right, say you don't get yourself killed. There's somethin' else". Wyatt then brought up a fact he hated to think about. "All those years I worked those cow towns, I was only ever mixed up in one shootin'. Just one. But a man lost his life and I took it. You don't know how that feels, Morgan. Believe me, boy, you don't ever wanna know. Not ever". Both Virgil and Morgan stood stone faced and still didn't back down from their position. "Didn't even make a dent, did I"? Virgil and Morgan didn't respond and Wyatt knew he wasn't going to get anywhere with them. "Alright". Wyatt then took his gun belt off and shoved them into Virgils hands. "You're both makin' a big mistake".
Wyatt then marched out of the office and rode off back to the cottages. "Does this mean I don't get taught how to shoot a gun anymore" you asked nervously since they were fuming about what just happened. "No. I'm sure Doc will still teach you, but not here" Virgil said.
"I think you should head back to the cottages, (y/n)" Morgan suggested.
"I can't" you said quickly. "There's too many people out there and I can't deal with that right now".
"Alright, come on. I'll take you back" Morgan said. He knew the people outside would probably scream at you and he was well aware that you wouldn't be able to handle that. Virgil said he would continue with the posters and that Morgan would just take you to his cottage instead since Wyatt would probably talk your ear off and bother you. Of course, as you and Morgan walked outside, people continued shouting at you and Morgan guided you to Sylvie who was still awaiting for you. "Good girl" you said quietly.
As you and Morgan got on your horses, people were still shouting but they moved out of the way and you both raced off back to the cottages. Morgan could see you were exhausted and went ahead to let you crash on the couch in his cottage. You said goodnight to him and Lousia and went to bed. It was safe but also tragic to say that you were probably stuck here forever but you knew that the Earp brothers and their wives and Doc Holliday were your besties and that was a huge relief.
You were grateful but afraid of what the future held in store for you but knew that as long as they were by your side, you would be safe no matter what.

Take Wyatt Earp as a biopic and it is a superb and fair film. Compare it to Tombstone which was more of a Western and it’s lacking the flair. However, it ends abruptly, and it is miscast. Cosner (and i am a fan) doesn’t really make a good Earp. Dennis Quaid who I am also a fan of, doesn’t make a good Doc. This was 1994, in the 80s I might have a dif...

Pride and Prejudice (2005) and/or Tombstone. I love hearing your opinions!
I'm going to begin with Tombstone; Pride and Prejudice under the cut :)
I love a good western, but it's Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday that really sets Tombstone apart. Probably my favorite moment can be viewed here, but I'll transcribe the exchange that really gets me below:
Ike Clanton: Listen now, Mr. Kansas-Law-Dog: law don't go 'round here, savvy?
Wyatt Earp, flatly: I'm retired.
Curly Bill: Good. That's real good. [...]
Johnny Ringo: And you must be Doc Holiday
Doc Holliday: That's the rumor
Ringo: You retired too?
Doc, visibly sweating and white as a sheet: Not me. I'm in my prime.
The rest of the scene (and, indeed, the whole movie) is well worth the watch, but this, this is Doc's thesis statement for this scene and throughout the movie. He's in his prime, in spite of the fact that he's got late-stage tuberculosis and is basically walking dead. He intends to prove it.
In this scene, we see Doc match Ringo in a contest of wits as they exchange several rounds of Latin epigrams. When Ringo draws on him and demonstrates his fancy gunslinging, Doc does the same with an empty cup. It's awesome.
As the movie progresses, Doc will prove repeatedly that he is intelligent, sharp, and highly skilled at everything he does. He's determined to be his best, and to show everyone around him just how extraordinary Doc Holliday at his best is, regardless of the fact that his lungs are slowly being shredded to bits in his chest. He's in his prime, even when he slows Wyatt's revenge party down later in the movie due to his illness. He proves it definitively, with more swagger and panache than anyone else.
Westerns are about American myth-making. The gunfight at the OK Corral is a towering part of the myth of the Old West. Yet I love how this movie portrays these semi-mythic figures in their humanity, without compromising on the myth.
Death is ugly in Tombstone--utterly un-glorious--but Wyatt Earp's revenge is mythic, complete with the epic threat, "So run, you cur, run! Tell all the other curs the law's comin'! You tell 'em I'm coming--and hell's coming with me!"
Sickness is ugly too. Doc Holliday spends the whole movie sweating and pale, falling over and coughing up blood. He needs to rest. He doesn't want to rest. Yet in spite of all that, he's mythic. Epic. He's dying, but he's in his prime.
There's something immensely powerful in that tension. Human, yet mythic. Frail, yet powerful. I love it very, very much.
*
I maintain that the 2005 Pride and Prejudice is the superior adaptation of the source material, even if it's not strictly the most faithful to the text of the book or the technicalities of the period. I got in multiple arguments with my professor on this point when I took and Austen and Bronte course.
The 2005 adaptation dials in close to the inner lives and messy relationships of its characters and never, never lets go. Elizabeth is intelligent and headstrong, yes, but the quiet moments of contemplation, reevaluation, sadness, and forgiveness are where the story of Pride and Prejudice really lives.
Austen wrote a profound intimacy between Elizabeth and Jane modeled after the intimacy she shared with her own sister. She wrote a father/daughter relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet that has so many layers to it: Lizzy is his favorite, the daughter who is most like him, yet he does wrong by his family as often as he does right. Elizabeth has a very clear-eyed view of her father, as much as she loves him. Ditto with her other sisters, and even her mother, who for all her silliness is actually desperate to ensure safe futures for her daughters. All of this is captured so beautifully in the 2005 version, while even the much-lauded Collin Firth adaptation tends to lose track of its characters' heartbeats, if that makes sense.
I could cite so many examples, but I think the sequence where Elizabeth returns home from Rosings is the best to demonstrate what I mean. Linked here.
Elizabeth and Jane discuss their respective trips. Neither is entirely honest with the other. Both are aware of this fact. They do not press each other. They are cautious and gentle with one another, but both look a little sad.
Kitty and Lydia and Mrs. Bennet are, yes, a little silly, but we understand them. Their motivations are clear. They are loud and a little obnoxious, but we feel Mrs. Bennet's fear, Lydia's desire to be important, Kitty's desire to be like Lydia.
Elizabeth and Jane discuss in an undertone while the others make a fuss. I love that.
The scene with Elizabeth and her father is absolutely flawless. We can see both sides, but we understand that Mr. Bennet does not know or care for his younger daughters as Lizzy does. "We shall have no peace until she goes," says Mr. Bennet. "Peace?" retorts Lizzy, "is that really all you care about?"
Mr. Bennet rather callously predicts that "[Lydia's] stay in Brighton will teach her her own insignificance." Elizabeth correctly predicts that Lydia is too easily led and will come into danger in Brighton and that Kitty will be in danger too out of her desire to be like Lydia. We see that she is right and her father is wrong. Yet it's also noteworthy that Lizzy and her father argue like equals. They take one another seriously and it's obvious that they care for and respect one another very deeply.
And then we get one of my favorite little scenes in the whole film: Elizabeth and Jane are lying in bed together in the dark of the night. The candle still burns.
Elizabeth, very softly and with a great deal of sadness: I saw Mr. Darcy when I was at Rosings.
Several beats of silence pass.
Jane, also speaking very softly: Why did you not tell me? Did he mention Mr. Bingley?
Elizabeth sighs
Elizabeth: No...
Another moment of silence. Lizzy rolls over and blows out the candle.
Elizabeth, in the now total darkness: No, he did not.
This is the heart and soul of the story. These two sisters, their difficult romances, secrets whispered late at night. Coming to understand one another. Coming to understand the men they love. Hoping against hope.
The transcendent beauty of the story of Pride and Prejudice is very simple: What if people are not what they seem? What if the man who was rude to you is good all the way down, and the handsome officer is a cad, and even your favorite sister has hidden depths? What if sometimes we get second chances at really seeing one another?
The 2005 adaptation captures this essence as well as I can imagine it ever being captured.

American Outlaw Movie Heroes
Our current AFI movie is the tale of Bonnie and Clyde (1967), and re-watching it made me think of all the great movies with real bandits and outlaws as the main protagonists. I thought I would make some quick recommendations for some movies that the group might want to check out. A little bit of a spoiler warning since the lives of these criminals are the plots of the movies.
Tumblr media
Dillinger (1945)
There was no such thing as a film biography at the time this movie was put out, but it was a gritty retelling of the news stories less than 10 years after the actual death of John Dillinger. It is the black-and-white, Old Hollywood version of an A&E Biography and an example of true crime re-enactment. The movie really moves covering all of the crimes from his first crime of convenience to pay for a dinner date to his last gunfight outside of a theater. A lot of blood and action is implied because of the Hays Code, but it is still a very good film.
Tumblr media
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
Trying not to spoil this one is a little difficult since the full review is in the works as mentioned above. The movie does follow the actual crimes of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker from the time they first meet to the time of their death. The movie does dramatize the strained relationship of Bonnie and the rest of the gang as well as combining two Barrow Gang members into one character in the movie, but it seems to be otherwise pretty accurate. This is another film that was made relatively soon after the actual crime spree (about 30 years from death to the start of film production) giving the film a realistic feel.
Tumblr media
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
This is a film that was already reviewed by the group, but well worth a second watch (or more for that matter). It is the highly stylized and romanticized story of Butch Cassidy, Harry Longabaugh, and Etta Place. The film has long comedic montages as well as witty dialogue that would not have occurred at the time. It even has a pleasant little music video in the middle of the film for "Rain Drops Keep Fallin On My Head." The names, dates, and locations are very accurate, but dialogue is much more for fun. Very enjoyable film.
Tumblr media
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
This one doesn't completely count because it is not really a hard and fast true story, but it is a great movie and it is based on the story of a Confederate guerilla fighter named Bill Wilson. He was a man from Missouri who was associated with the Quantrill Raiders. Bill became known as "The Great Bushwacker" because he would ambush Union soldiers and sell the horses and supplies to the Confederates. He moved around Texas and Missouri with his Native American wife after the war and the movie basically speculates on the life of a Confederate Bushwacker after the end of the Civil War. It is a fun note that, in the film, some bar patrons that are covering for Josey Wales refer to him as Mr. Wilson.
Tumblr media
Tombstone (1993)
Not so much the stories of outlaws, but instead the story of vengeful lawmen that acted like outlaws. It is the story of the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday versus Curly Bill Brocius and the Cowboys. The fighting between the two groups led to the very famous gunfight at the O.K. Corrall. It is the story of the escalating vengeance between outlaws and lawmen along the border of Mexico and the American Territories during the late 1800s. It is a great story based on written accounts from the time and a crime history during a time of lawlessness in the American West.

HBO Max New Releases: August 2021
https://ift.tt/3A1bKHN
Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

How The Suicide Squad is Different from Guardians of the Galaxy
By Mike Cecchini
It’s a good month for movies overall on HBO Max. Many intriguing library titles arrive on Aug. 1, including Collateral, The Fugitive (1993), The Shawshank Redemption, and Spawn. The Jurassic Park trilogy (Aug. 14), and Godzilla v. Kong (Aug. 17) make their return to the Warner streaming service a little later on.
HBO Max’s original TV offerings can’t compete with The Suicide Squad in August 2021, but there is still plenty to enjoy. The third season of erstwhile DC Universe series Titans premieres on Aug. 12. That will be followed by the second season of former Comedy Central delight The Other Two.

Tombstone (1993)
Tumblr media
The gunfights, the lone sheriff against the hordes of outlaws, the isolation, the horseback chases, unapologetic manliness are what make the Western a favorite genre of many and a prime venue for delivering great stories. Anyone who likes stories of the Wild West has probably already seen Tombstone but if you haven't let me tell you why you should.
Based on true events - including the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and the exploits of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday - the film is set in the 1880s. Lawmen Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell), Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), Virgil Earp (Sam Elliott), and Morgan Earp (Bill Paxton) are retiring to the small mining town of Tombstone. Reluctantly, the four friends are convinced to don the sheriff and deputy badges once again against the Cowboys, a large group of outlaws led by “Curly Bill” Brocious (Powers Boothe).
This movie contains everything you'd expect from a western without making it feel clichéd. You’ve got the gun-slinging, the shootouts, the ruthless outlaws, the hard-hitting lawmen, the gambling, drinking, and the horseback riding. It plays like a “best of”. We’ve got a lot of big names in this movie both in terms of the cast and the plot, as it re-enacts some of the best-known events of the period. Michael Biehn, Charlton Heston, Stephen Lang, Billy Zane, Billy Bob Thornton, and more. They all deliver good performances, with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer being standouts. They convincingly play good friends pulled back into a world they hoped to have left behind. Even if the narration and story didn’t tell you that they had years’ worth of stories together, you'd know it instantly.
It's a memorable, iconic film and would've been even better if it had cut back on the content a little. It’s hard to say exactly what could've been trimmed (doubly so, considering we're reviewing the director's cut). Everyone gets ample character development, which means you know them all intimately but it can also drag a bit. A few less quiet scenes between the showdowns and shootouts. But don't cut anything even a single second of Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. It's one of his best performances.
Tombstone has iconic scenes that will stick with you for a long time because they bring something new. This makes me doubly sad that I didn't leave the picture full of enthusiasm for it. My expectations were off - I assumed this was an action film - and probably should've started off with the theatrical cut rather than the lengthier version. I was let down but this just makes me want to watch it again rather than turn anyone away from it. This is a great-looking film that fans of the Wild West will embrace wholeheartedly. It's likely to become a new favorite for you. (Director’s Cut on DVD, June 19, 2015)

Could we have a fanfic with Bruce talking about his father ? 🙄 (P.S I love your fanfictions)
Thankyou so much!!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying myfics, they’re a ton of fun to write! Hope you like this one :) (Fair warning,it’s my longest yet and it takes a hot second to get into the part on Bruce’sfather. I think the build-up is worth it, though!)
Disclaimers:I haven’t seen either Hulk movies, so I’m not entirely surehow they’ve handled Bruce’s father in the MCU. I loosely based this off of theBrian Banner’s Wikipedia page, which I thought had the most potential for myfic. It gets pretty dark, and has mentions of child abuse and the death/murderof Bruce’s mother. Please read with caution if any of these topics make youuncomfortable!
Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Banner
Chapter One: (NYC, presentday)
Natashaleaned over the edge of the sink, her throat burning. Her mind was racing, trying to figure out what was making her sick. As a spy, she had naturallydealt with all kinds of poisons, but the effect she was experiencing now wasunlike anything she’d ever felt. She didn’t eatanything unusual, she wasn’t particularly nervous, she wasn’t on her period….
Atthat, her entire body froze in shock.
Ohmy god. She thought. I’m late.
Sherummaged through the medicine cabinet to find the pregnancy test that shealways kept in the back. (Just in case of emergencies, like this.) As shewaited for the results to show, her legs felt like jelly and her palms weredamp with sweat. Finally, the screen revealed a little pink plus sign.
Shewas pregnant.
“Bruce!” She called, tears welling in her eyes. She ran out of the bathroom and into the masterbedroom, where Bruce was curled up under a pile of blankets.
“Bruce! Honey, wakeup!”
“What is it?” Hegroaned, rolling over to face her.
She kneeled againstthe side of the bed and gently ran her hand down his arm, keeping her eyestrained on his face.
“I’m pregnant.”
Bruce’s eyes widenedand his jaw slackened. He was barely able to stutter, “P-p-pregnant?”
Nat’s grin got evenwider, her voice nearly reaching a squeal. “Yeah, I took a test andeverything!”
“Oh my god!” Hecried, his face lighting up as he pulled Natasha into his arms. He stood up andkissed her forehead as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Hot tears of joystreamed down their faces as they held each other closer, savoring this perfectmoment and wishing it could last forever until….
Natashajerked awake, and opened her eyes to a concerned looking Bruce. He had one handon her cheek and another on her shoulder.
“Hey, you okay?” Hemurmured, pushing a lock of hair behind her ear.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Itwas…just a dream. A really good dream.”
“Good.” He said, kissing her on the forehead. He outstretched his arms lazily, and she snuggledagainst his chest. They laid there together in comfortable silence, until theirheartbeats became synced.
“Hey Bruce?”
“Mm?”
“I think I’m ready to adopt. What do you say?”
Brucegently pulled away so that he could look deep into Natasha’s eyes. His face lit up with a warm smile as he leaned back into give her a passionate kiss.
Whenthey broke apart, she giggled and said, “I’ll take that as ayes?”
“Absolutely, 100%yes.” He said, the cheesy grin never leaving his face.
“I love you so much,Nat.”
“I love you too,Bruce.”
Chapter Two:
Thescent of coffee and cinnamon spread through the Banner-Romanoff kitchen. Duringlazy weekends like this, French toast at 1:00 in the afternoon was typical.Bruce had just finished flipping the last pieces of bread as Natasha walked inwith the mail.
“Anything good?” Hecalled, as she took her slippers near the front door.
“Ah, let’ssee…water bill, honeymoon postcard from Pepper and Tony, and…” she paused, eyeing an ordinary white envelope. “Something from…Hennessy Funeral Home? It’s for you.”
“Huh. Wonder whatthis is all about?” He said, taking the letter from her and ripping into it. He skimmed it, and his facefell. He sat down at the kitchen table and said nothing.
“What is it?” Natasked, sitting next to him and resting her hand on his arm, which was clenchingthe letter.
“They…they want meto pay for my Dad’s burial.”
“Your dad? I thoughthe died years ago.”
“To me, he did. Buthe…he’s been staying in a mental institution since my Mom died. His sisterpaid for it, but then she died too and then…” his voice trailed off, nottaking his eyes from the letter.
“You started paying for it?”She added gently, placing her free hand on the small of his back.
“I couldn’t let himgo, Nat. All I could think of was him hurting some other woman like my Mom. Ithought, at least this way, he’s out of my life and away from other people.”
“I understand, hon.You did the right thing.”
“I’m not sure. GuessI’ll be spending the rest of my life figuring that out. It’s just…if we’regoing to be parents, I want to make sure I never repeat his mistakes.”
“You won’t. You’re agood person, Bruce, and you’re going to be an awesome dad. But we don’t have to rushinto anything if you aren’t ready. We’ll tackle the world together, just likewe’ve always done. Right?”
A smile finallycreeped on Bruce’s face as his body relaxed under Natasha’s touch.
“Right.”
Chapter Three: (Ohio, 1974)
“Hey, you okaybaby?”
“Yes, mama.”
Rebeccawalked into her son’s room and carefully shut thedoor. Bruce was curled up on his bed, his body shaking and his eyes stained redwith tears.
“Good.” She mumbled, kissing his forehead before sitting down on the foot of his bed.
Shegently pulled the covers off him and brushed his curly hair off of hisforehead. “Come here, sweetheart.”
Brucegot on all fours and crawled into his mother’sarms.
“Why don’t you leavehim, Mama?”
“Oh Bruce, it’s notthat easy. I love him.”
“But I don’t love him. And he doesn’t love you.”
Rebecca paused inhurt, hesitating before speaking again. “Well…sometimes the people that don’tlove us are the people that need our love the most.”
“But he hurts us. Wewouldn’t get hurt ever again if you just left him.”
“Honey, we can’tleave. I’m sorry. I wish we could, but we can’t.”
“It’s not fair.”
“I know, baby.”Rebecca kissed her son’s forehead and rocked him in her arms. “I know.”
Chapter Four (Hennessy MentalInstitution, 1989)
Themetal cell door slammed behind Bruce as he turned to face his father.
BrianBanner sat huddled in the corner of his cell, tall and scruffy and shrunken. Thestraightjacket he was wearing made him look all the more menacing, and at thesame time, pathetic.
BettyRoss gave Bruce a reassuring nod from behind the bars of the door. He becamepainfully aware of skipping a shave that morning, and how similar his browneyes looked to the broken man that lay at his feet.
“Hi,dad.”
Brian’sface contorted into a sinister sneer.
“Brucie.Come to pay your old man some respect?”
“AuntSarah asked me to check in on you.”
“Shetold me you were graduating, Brucie. Top of your class.”
“Yes.I’ll be starting my doctorate next fall.”
“Hmmph.Figures you’d be a doctor. Good for nothing, freeloading know-it-alls trying tomake themselves important. You’ll fit right in.”
Bruce’sglare, tinged with the slightest hints of green, replied for him.
“Yourmother though, she’d be disappointed.”
“Don’t.”He warned, clenching his fists to prevent them from swelling with rage.
“Shethought of you as some kind of angel vigilante. Wanted you to be a lawyer. Ofcourse, you know how I feel about lawyers, they’re the reason I’m in this messin the first place!”
Brianlaughed a sickening laugh that chilled Bruce to the bone and made his bloodboil.
“Youknow why you’re here.” Bruce growled.
“Andwhy is that, Brucie?”
“Becauseyou’re a LUNATIC.”
“Andwhat makes me a lunatic, exactly?”
“Becauseyou KILLED MY MOTHER!” Bruce yelled into his father’s face, getting dangerouslyclose to slipping out of his mind and into the monster’s.
“Bruce.”
“WHAT?!”Bruce turned to the source of the second voice, only to see Betty’s expressionchange from concern to utter terror.
“We…weshould go.” She stammered, her eyes darting from father to son. He wasn’t surewho she looked more afraid of.
Adeep wave of shame washed over him, and he felt every last bit of the Hulkleave his body.
“You’reright.” He said, giving her an apologetic look.
“Bye-bye,kiddo.” Brian jeered as his son turned his back to him. When Bruce didn’trespond, he cocked his head and waved to Betty. “Bye, sweet-cheeks.”
“Goto hell.” Bruce replied, not bothering to look over his shoulder at him.
Bruceslammed the metal door for the final time, vowing then and there that thiswould be the last time he saw his father.
Chapter Five (Present Day)
“Hewas a bastard.” Bruce muttered, kicking a pebble at his father’s tiny tombstone.
“We’renot here for him.” Natasha said softly, taking his arm and leading him severalrows down, to a grave marked with several vases of pretty flowers and the nameRebecca Banner.
Brucekneeled down and placed a bouquet of flowers in one of the vases.
“Petuniaswere her favorite…I got them for her for Mother’s Day the year she…” he lookeddown at his feet and took a deep breath. Natasha never let go of his hand.
“Shewould have loved you.” He continued with a small smile.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, she loved ballet. And she took her coffee the same way you do.”
“Twosugars, six creams?”
“Exactly.”
Along moment of peace passed over them. The wind caused the flower petals toflutter like a butterfly’s wings, and the sun felt warm and comforting againsttheir skin. Bruce gradually lightened his grip on Natasha’s hand.
“Ithink I’m ready.” He said finally, looking at her with complete adoration.
“Okay.Let’s go home.”
Asthey got into the car, Natasha’s cellphone began to ring with an unfamiliarnumber. She answered it and put it on speaker.
“Hello?”
“Hi,is this Mrs. Romanoff?”
“Yes,it is.”
“Goodafternoon, Mrs. Romanoff! This is Angie with the Adoption Agency. I was callingto inform you that we’ve found a child that was an excellent match with yourfamily’s profile, and they would be delighted for you to come and meet them.”

CLARIFICATION:
this is not the meta about clarification that I’ve been meaning to compile for the last two days, but haven’t scraped up the brainpower to actually write yet. No, this is an actual clarification. Because I am a fool. :P
In this post, I said some stuff and things about Dean’s cowboy knowledge, their chosen aliases, and the Tombstone references, but I can’t believe I missed this huge obvious WTF moment... because it’s huge...
Take Dean’s line here:
Dean: Pretty cool right? Dude, check it, check it out, check it out. Clay Allison, gun fighter extraordinaire, right. And, ah, Curly Bill Brocius, which no, no, no. Little fun fact here, was killed by Wyatt Earp himself. Not kidding. Johnny Ringo, Billy the Kid... Doc Holiday! Hey-oh!
But I have since learned a thing about the movie Tombstone, which Dean referred to explicitly in the “I’m your huckleberry” scene with Cas, and even chose all their aliases for this hunt as the actors who starred in that movie. He advised Cas to pretend they were in the movie while talking to the local cops.
But in the movie, it wasn’t Wyatt Earp (incidentally the character Dean based his alias of Kurt Russel on) who killed Curly Bill, it was Doc Holliday.
And I only think it’s relevant to point out and correct here because Doc Holliday delivered the “I’m your huckleberry” line to Curly Bill right before shooting him. Beating him in the duel that was SUPPOSED to have been between Curly Bill and Wyatt.
I have since been informed that the above scratched out bit is incorrect, that Doc delivered the line to Johnny Ringo, also identified by Dean in his little Cowboy History Gleefest, but that Wyatt was supposed to be the one dueling Ringo but because of Doc’s manipulation of the entire scenario, he prevented Wyatt from showing up on time (knowing that Ringo was a better gunfighter and would likely win against Wyatt), so that Doc could stand in for him (Doc was dying of tuberculosis anyway, and he knew he was the better gunfighter as well... and yeah, he won the duel).
But in real life, it really WAS Wyatt Earp who shot and killed Curly Bill. (Curly Bill had assassinated Wyatt’s brother Morgan, played by Bill Paxton in the movie, and the alias given to Jack on this hunt, just as an additional fun fact. So it really was “family business” for the Earps just like the hunt for Dave the Ghoul was “family business” for Sarge.)
The entire scenario in the movie was fictional. Dean’s knowledge of the REALITY of these historical people isn’t just based on movies. Remember how he got mocked for wearing his “blanket” in 6.18? Yeah, I think he’s spent some time in the interim reading up on the reality of the old west. He doesn’t just know the movie versions of events and circumstances.
I.e., Dean’s not confusing reality with porn here. :P
The way Davy Perez balanced out the fictional aspects of Tombstone by giving TFW 2.0 the aliases of the ACTORS portraying these characters and mirroring their “roles” to the events of the film, versus the actual “meat” of the case (pffft meat, because it was a ghoul...) and mirroring their reality to... reality... I am blown away yet again.

If you could play truth or dare with Johnny Ringo and Curly Bill, what would ask them and what would you dare them to do?

Tombstone (1993)
Tumblr media
A famous shoot out (OK Coral), all star cast, and some great acting. If you have never had the pleasure of watching Tombstone do yourself a favorite and go watch this film. This movie has it all, western gun play, memorable characters, and amazing lines.
The story is based partial on actual history and follows the tale of Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) as he retires in Tombstone with his brothers Virgil Earp (Sam Elliott) and Morgan Earp (Bill Paxton). The brothers have some run ins with the red sash wearing Cowboys and soon all kinds of troubles begin.
One of the most famous tales from western times is the shoot out behind the OK Coral. The movie tried to tell the story leading up to that and what happens after. The visuals of this movie are still amazing till now. The sets are completely believable and the flow of the movie is done very well.
The cast of this movie is a who’s who of all stars and play amazing roles. This entire cast puts their all into this movie. Even the minor characters feel so believable and at times you forget your watching actors playing roles and just see the character.
The action is great and has a less Hollywood feel to it and a more western real feel to the shoot outs. While Kurt Russell does an amazing job, Val Kilmer who plays his best friend Doc Holiday easily steals the show when on screen.
Final Thoughts:
A western tale of love, vengeance, and brother hood played by an all star cast that will leave you with some really memorable parts.

Chapter 18
Previous ~ Next
The next day at Henry Hooker's Ranch was nerve-wracking. McMasters still hadn't returned and you and the others were getting nervous on where he was. As you all sat on the porch and while Doc was resting, something was spotted up ahead. A rider who was dragging something on his lasso. You all stood up and Henry Hooker asked, "What the hell is that"? The rider stopped his horse and dropped his lasso, leaving the thing he was dragging on the ground and looked at all of you before riding off. Without thinking, you sprinted off towards this object and Wyatt, Creek Johnson and Texas Jack followed after you.
Once you came closer, it was revealed to be the burnt and torn up corpse of McMasters. You screamed and Texas Jack said, "They got McMasters"! You started to tear up and choked on your sobs and Wyatt took you by the shoulders to hold you close. "Ringo wanted to make sure he got your attention, marshall" the cowboy yelled so you all could hear him. "He wants a straight-up fight, just you and him, to settle this thing once and for all. Oak Grove at the mouth of Silver Springs Canyon, 7:00"!
The cowboy rode off and then Wyatt released your shoulders and yelled back, "You tell him I'll be there"!
"Are you crazy" Creek Johnson asked but was cut off by Wyatt.
"I'll be there"! Wyatt looked back at McMasters corpse and then held you again. "It's not finished". Wyatt then led you back to the house and informed Hooker about what happened and when Hooker saw how distressed you looked, his generosity was extended to allow you all to stay longer, which was greatly appreciated but you all couldn't. Doc had awoken after some time and was informed of McMasters death. It didn't seem to faze him but on the inside, he wasn't happy. Wyatt knew just how fast and powerful Doc was and started to ask him for advice of taking out Ringo.
"I spent my whole life not knowin' what I wanted outta life, just chasin' my tail" Wyatt said to you and Doc. "Now for the first time I know exactly what I want", you and Doc looked at Wyatt, "and who. And that's the damnable misery of it". Doc looked away from Wyatt and took a hold of your hand. Wyatt walked towards the door and stopped, thinking hardly. "What makes a man like Ringo, Doc? What makes him do the things he does"?
"A man like Ringo... got a great empty hole right through the middle of him. He can never kill enough or steal enough or inflict enough pain to ever fill it".
"What does he need"?
"Revenge".
"For what"?
It took Doc a moment but he answered with this small statement. "Bein' born". Wyatt looked back at Doc and came over to sit beside you. Wyatt gave you a quick glance and looked to Doc. "It all happened so fast with Curly Bill I didn't have time to think about it but I've had plenty of time to think about this. I can't beat him, can I"?
"No" Doc replied. Wyatt understood, gave you a gentle pat on the shoulder and stood up to leave. "Wait" Doc said leaning up and coughed. "I'm goin' with ya". Doc then coughed harder and you gently pushed back into the bed. "No, Doc. Please, I'm not letting you hurt yourself". Doc was groaning in pain and tried to protest but you repeated the fact that you wouldn't let him hurt himself any longer. "Oh God" Doc said in pain and you started to rub his forehead to soothe him. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Wyatt".
"It's alright, Doc".
Doc opened his eyes and eyed Wyatts marshall badge. "What's it like to wear one of those"? Wyatt looked to his badge and took it off. "Give it to her, Wyatt". You looked back at Doc surprised and Wyatt didn't even hesitate. Wyatt held out the badge for you to take but you questioned him quickly. "Wait, why"?
"You deserve it" Doc said.
"After everythin' you've done for us, it seems fair. Take it. Please" Wyatt said. You took the badge and held it like it was a precious jewel. "After all, (y/n)" Wyatt said, "You're the toughest woman I've ever met. You were born to wear it" Wyatt said proudly. You stood up and hugged him tightly and he returned the embrace and he held onto you tightly. He didn't know if he would survive the gunfight that was coming his way but he wanted to make sure he did a proper farewell to his best friends. You both stopped hugging and and you sat back down beside Doc. "How's it feel" Doc asked.
"It feels life changing" you said proudly. You looked to both of them and thanked them and they both gave you a gentle smile in return. Wyatt started to leave but looked back to see you two, for, hopefully not, the last time. Creek Johnson and Texas Jack were already mounted up and waiting for Wyatt and as Wyatt mounted up, he shared a concerned look with Henry Hooker. "Don't worry. They want 'em, they gotta come over us first". Hooker then held out his hand and the two men shook hands as Wyatt and the other two then followed after him as he rode off. You were seated beside Doc and as you looked at the badge, it truly was something to behold.
As you examined it, you thought of all the things that the cowboys had done. They killed your friends, harassed you and made life horrible for people. You clenched the badge and then had the look of determination. You knew what had to be done and you knew YOU were going to accomplish it.
